My art work is inspired by a lifelong interest in psychology. I am fascinated by actions / behaviors that originate at a subconscious level. Currently, my abstract paintings and mixed media are a metaphor for subconscious and conscious thought processes. Composed of several layers, my compositions begin with an impulsive use of paint and materials. At some point the composition begins to suggest something to me, whereupon I proceed in a more conscious, purposeful manner. This way of exploration and self-discovery has been inspired by an interest in psychoanalysis and in the art of the abstract and surrealist painters who practiced automatism in their work.
